" Episode 5" focused on Bambi, Belle's fellow London call girl, and her relationship to client-turned-boyfriend 'Byron.' Bambi, Ashley Madekwe, is a sliver thin actress with a ruddy accent that acts as a foil to Belle's 'upper class hooker' persona. Jackie had left her cheating husband back at home with the baby and for three episodes stayed with Belle, discovered her own inner slut and started sleeping with Belle's best friend 'Ben.' This character was flat and obnoxious and so her presence did little more than irritate Belle and help her on her way to making poor decisions-such as sleeping with Duncan and ditching Ben. ' Episode 2' spilled into #'s 3 and 4 as Belle's sister 'Jackie' moved in and wreaked havoc upon her already cluttered life. Not much happened in this episode other than a few snarky comments about the indignity of a whore writing a novel and our introduction to 'Duncan Atwood' (James D'Arcy), Belle's new editor. Belle's first novel had just been published and so she was disguised as a cocktail waitress at her own release party to get a feel for the critics. Following this unnamed premier, " Episode 1" turned out a much more coherent representation of what we've come to expect of 'Belle Du Jour.' It focused on Belle's varying identities – the escort, the author, and 'Hannah,' her daytime persona. Simply put, Magnanti is not a beautiful woman and though she is a PhD, it was hard to piece together some of the stories she started prattling out when Piper asked about her best and worst clients and why she started 'working' in the first place. Once Piper got to the sight of the interview, a nondescript hotel room, she just sat on the couch with her hair standing on end, chatting awkwardly with a women who hardly looked like she would be a premier London anything. The interview between Piper and Magnanti was not glamorous or reminiscent of the show at all (outside of the brief opening where Piper confessed to the camera that she was nervous about meeting the women behind all the stories).
